Austine Onyango Wamalwa, a determined Form Three student at Olekasasi Secondary School in Rongai, has captured the hearts of many Kenyans after a heartbreaking video showed him walking to school at 4:25 a.m.

The footage, shared by well-wisher Mel Wangeci Kim, revealed more than just an early riser — it told the story of a resilient orphan with no home, no parents, and barely enough food to survive.

Mel later visited Austine and discovered that he walks over three hours daily from a friend’s place just to attend school. Despite these challenges, he remains committed to his education.

Mel said Austine has no place to call home and relies entirely on the goodwill of a schoolmate and strangers. His biggest plea? Help to raise school fees and secure a safe place to live.

“I just want somewhere I can sleep, eat, and continue with school,” Austine shared in the emotional video.

Mel is now coordinating efforts to support him and has shared her M-Pesa number (0729461299) for anyone willing to help.

Austine’s story is a powerful reminder that even in the darkest of situations, hope and education can light the way.
