Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has said recent political developments involving ODM leaders present an opportunity for the opposition to reorganize, strengthen its grassroots structures, and prepare more effectively for the 2027 General Election.
Speaking during an interview with Radio 47, Kioni argued that Oburu Odinga’s decision to cooperate with the Kenya Kwanza administration should not be viewed as a setback for the opposition. Instead, he said the move provides Azimio with a chance to regroup, refine its strategy, and position itself as a stronger political force ahead of the next general election.
Kioni expressed confidence that Kenyans would soon witness a revitalized Azimio coalition led by a united team of leaders committed to offering an alternative to the current administration. He added that the coalition is focused on rebuilding its support base and noted that further political realignments could emerge before the country heads to the polls in 2027.
The Jubilee secretary general also emphasized the importance of involving young people in shaping the country’s political future. He described Generation Z as a powerful force in Kenya’s evolving political landscape and said Azimio intends to embrace the ideas, participation, and leadership of young Kenyans as part of its long-term strategy.
His remarks come amid debate surrounding the decision by several ODM leaders to work with President William Ruto’s administration following their nomination to Cabinet positions. The appointments of Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi generated mixed reactions within ODM and the broader Azimio coalition.
While some leaders welcomed the nominations as an opportunity to contribute to national development, others argued that cooperating with the Kenya Kwanza administration could weaken the opposition and undermine the demands raised by Gen Z protesters during nationwide demonstrations against the Finance Bill and calls for government reforms.
As political realignments continue to unfold, analysts say the opposition’s ability to rebuild unity, attract young voters, and maintain a clear political identity will play a significant role in shaping Kenya’s political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election.
