Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni, a close ally of Kalonzo Musyoka, has said Oburu Odinga’s decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza government could create room for the opposition to reorganize, strengthen its grassroots networks, and better prepare for the 2027 General Election.

Kioni argued that the latest political developments should not be viewed as a setback for the opposition. Instead, he described them as an opportunity for the opposition to regroup, reassess its strategy, and build a stronger political platform ahead of the elections.

Speaking to Radio 47 on Wednesday night, Kioni expressed confidence that Kenyans would soon witness a revitalized Azimio coalition led by younger, united, and ambitious leaders determined to form the next government.

He said Azimio is currently working to rebuild its grassroots support and position itself as a credible alternative to the Kenya Kwanza administration. According to Kioni, further political realignments could also emerge before the 2027 polls.

The Jubilee official also stressed the importance of involving Generation Z in the opposition’s plans, describing young Kenyans as a major force in shaping the country’s political direction. He said Azimio wants to incorporate their views, participation, and leadership into its efforts to push for political and social reforms.

Kioni’s remarks came amid reports that Oburu Odinga had backed President William Ruto’s administration by supporting the nomination of several ODM figures to Cabinet positions.

The development sparked debate within opposition ranks, with some Azimio leaders opposing any form of cooperation with the Kenya Kwanza government.

Critics of the arrangement argued that such cooperation could weaken the opposition and undermine the demands championed by Gen Z protesters, who had rejected the Finance Bill and called for changes within the Cabinet during nationwide demonstrations.

The debate gained further momentum after President Ruto nominated Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya, John Mbadi, and Opiyo Wandayi to Cabinet positions.

The nominations drew varied reactions from ODM leaders and Azimio supporters, with some welcoming the appointments while others questioned whether the move was consistent with the opposition’s earlier stance and the concerns raised by young Kenyans during the protests.
