Protest

A tense scene played out in Kisumu as Gen Z protesters blocked former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua from accessing the town.

The group lit fires along the highway and completely halted transport into the area.

The rally meant for Kisumu was moved to Kakamega after the road was blocked.

Protesters insisted they would not allow Gachagua to set foot in the region.

Local youths claimed Gachagua’s presence would disrupt peace and hurt the local economy.

They accused him of pushing political divisions at a time when the country needs calm.

Videos showed angry residents chanting slogans and blocking the road with stones and burning tires.

Police were deployed but struggled to control the situation for several hours.

In Kakamega, another group of youths tried to stop rallies by lighting tires and blocking roads.

The police worked with boda boda riders to remove the barriers and escort the leaders safely.

Despite the attempted disruption, the rally in Kakamega went on without any violence.

Security officers remained alert throughout the event to keep crowds under control.

Gachagua blamed the chaos on forces within government, accusing some leaders of sponsoring disruptions. He said such actions only deepen the divisions in the country.

Protests led by Gen Z have been growing across the country, with young people demanding change. Many towns have witnessed blocked roads and closed businesses.

In places like Kisii and Nyeri, similar protests have emerged in recent weeks. Young people there also called for justice and better leadership.
