The widow of the late former Emurua Dikirr MP, Johana Ng’eno, Naiyanoi Ntutu, moved residents to tears after delivering an emotional speech during a visit to the constituency following party nominations.
Speaking to locals, Naiyanoi struggled to hold back her emotions as she reflected on the painful loss of her husband. She expressed deep gratitude to the residents for standing with her and her family from the time of Ng’eno’s passing through to his burial and beyond.
“I want to thank you for supporting me. I know many of you have called and sent messages, but I have not had the strength to respond. It is not because I don’t care,” she said tearfully. “As you have lost a leader, I have lost the father of my children.”
Naiyanoi also addressed critics who questioned her place in the community following her husband’s death. She firmly defended her marriage, stating it was conducted according to Kipsigis traditions and insisted that Emurua Dikirr remains her home.
The grieving widow explained why she chose not to contest the MP seat despite receiving strong backing from her family and supporters. According to her, the sudden loss of her husband left her emotionally unprepared to take on such a demanding role.
“This loss affected me deeply. I could not manage the responsibility at this time. I am sorry for letting you down,” she said.
However, she hinted at future political ambitions, expressing confidence that the community would support her when she is ready.
She also thanked women who visited and comforted her, adding that victims of the recent by-election violence are recovering well and had sent their greetings.
Her heartfelt message left many touched, as the community continues to mourn their fallen leader.
