Corporal Jacob Ogendo, a police officer in Nairobi, Kenya, is currently going through a very tough period in his life.
Ogendo recently suffered an assault by a young man named Ian Njoroge, which left him with serious pain in his back and ears.
This unfortunate incident occurred on Sunday, June 2. Adding to his troubles, Ogendo is also grieving the recent deaths of his mother-in-law, uncle, and cousin.
During a phone conversation with Mike Sonko, the former governor of Nairobi, Ogendo shared his physical and emotional struggles.
“I have pain in my back and ears; if I had some money, I would go and rest, but I don’t have any money,” he told Sonko.
Ogendo explained that the combined weight of his injuries and mourning has made it extremely difficult for him to cope.
Despite his condition, Ogendo cannot afford to take time off from his job. He expressed a strong desire to rest and recover away from public view, but financial constraints prevent him from doing so.
“If I had money, I would go somewhere to rest. I wanted to take some time off, but how can I go without anything? Empty-handed, really.
If I had something, I would go and rest for even a week to get away from people’s eyes,” he lamented.
During the call, Ogendo also expressed his deep gratitude to Sonko, who has been helping him with his medical expenses.
Sonko assisted in purchasing medicines and funding an X-ray for Ogendo, which was done at Mama Lucy Hospital.
“Yesterday, I was grateful that you helped me buy medicine and get an X-ray of my head. I had the X-ray done at Mama Lucy Hospital. God bless you for your help,” Ogendo added.
On the legal side, Ian Njoroge, who assaulted Ogendo, is currently facing legal action. Njoroge’s defense team claims that he was mistreated by the police after his arrest.
