The new Inspector General of police Mr. Koome has sent out a reprieve to Kenyan motorists after setting out new rules and regulations on the notoriously corrupt traffic police. Among the stringent rules reveals that all traffic officers are required at all times to have a badge indicating their service numbers which will make it easier for Kenyans to identify in case of corruption related offenses.
According to The Star digital news media platform, The IG who was speaking at a news presser sent a warning to senior police commanders who had set up permanent road blocks in a scheme to milk innocent motorists off their hard earned cash. The recent uproar by Kenyans that traffic management in the country has been turned into a cash cow at illegally erected roadblocks by rogue traffic enforcers.
Most of the road barriers have been used by rogue officers to harass motorists in an attempt to force them into giving out bribes. Other major changes are expected in reforms expected to be implemented by the new police boss.
