Embakasi East MP Babu Owino staged a series of high-energy rallies across Nyanza on Sunday, drawing huge crowds and igniting fresh debate over his rising political influence in a region.
Owino held stopovers in Nyando, Awasi–Muhoroni and Rarieda, where thousands turned up to hear him push a message of political renewal, economic frustration and generational change. His appearances triggered loud cheers as he crisscrossed the region.
Owino has in recent months criticised the direction of his own party and taken a more confrontational national posture, warning of youth protests over the rising cost of living and challenging senior party leadership on its strategy and future. Despite internal friction, he maintains that his actions are driven by public interest rather than personal ambition.
His Nyanza tour also appeared calculated to reinforce his cultural and regional identity. The MP recently defended his Luo heritage publicly after online criticism, a move viewed by analysts as aimed at securing legitimacy among local voters ahead of larger political manoeuvres.
