Former Law Society of Kenya president Nelson Havi has come out strongly to defend his daughter after she was criticised online for her dressing during a recent public appearance with him.The backlash emerged after photos of Havi attending an event with his daughter circulated on social media, with some users taking issue with the short skirt she wore.

The criticism quickly sparked debate, drawing both condemnation and support from the public.

In response, Havi took to social media On Saturday, December, 13, and shared throwback photos of women in his family, offering a personal and reflective message.

He posted images of his late mother at different stages of her life and one of his daughter, using the comparison to challenge the criticism directed at her.

“My mother: top left in black at 18 years, top right in red belly-bottom trousers at 25 years, and bottom left at 67 years; and my daughter bottom left at 18 years in a Hugo Boss skirt suit,” Havi wrote. He added that his daughter would grow and mature in her own time, just as her grandmother, mother did.

Havi firmly stated that he was comfortable with his daughter as she is, dismissing claims that her outfit was inappropriate.

His remarks struck a chord with many online users, who praised him for standing up for his child and pushing back against what they termed unnecessary policing of young women’s choices.

The exchange has reignited wider conversations around societal expectations placed on young women, particularly in public spaces.

Supporters argue that such criticism often reflects deeper issues of gender bias and control.
