A young man from Kabongwa Cheptrit in Nandi County broke down in tears after finally reuniting with his mother following two years apart, in a moment that has since moved thousands of Kenyans online.
Silah Bett had been separated from his mother for roughly two years before comedian Moab stepped in, tracked her down and helped bring the two together. Moab accompanied Bett to Bungoma, where his mother had been living at her sister’s homestead.
“This is my sister’s son and we welcome him home. We appreciate that they have finally met after two years and the family is reunited,” Bett’s aunt said.
His mother expressed joy over the reunion and thanked everyone who played a part in bringing it about.
In the video, a woman is seen standing in a yard with laundry drying in the background before mother and son come together, overcome with emotion.
“Finally, Silah Bett from Kabongwa Cheptrit has met with his mother,” Bett said. Moab, who facilitated the search and organised the reunion, captured the moment on camera.
The clip spread quickly across Facebook and other platforms in September, drawing an outpouring of warmth from Kenyans online. Many commenters remarked on how closely Silah resembles his mother, saying the likeness made the reunion even more touching.
Reactions poured in from social media users moved by the story. “God is higher than our problems,” wrote one commenter, Magdaline Cheruiyot.
Another, Sharon Willys, said the resemblance between mother and son was unmistakable. A third commenter, Jay Jay, suggested Bett had the presence of a future radio or television host and called for support to help him pursue a career in media.
The reunion is a reminder that behind many viral videos lies a deeply personal story, one that, for Silah, had been two years in the making.
