The names of Governors that President Ruto asked to shelve their 2027 political ambitions during a recent State House Meeting have been revealed.
Updates issued by Nandi Governor Stephen Sang indicate Ruto’s meeting at State House with a section of his allied second term Govenors.
The Nandi Governor has since come out and disclosed what President Ruto told them during the meeting and it has emerged that he called the Governors to State House.
“Today for re-election the President needs strong team to help. He called me the day before yesterday, and we went and sat down and he talked to me and told me Arap Sang, it’s by God’s grace that we won in 2022. There is a lot of work that needs to be done” Governor Sang said.
The Governor who was speaking today morning at a local radio station also disclosed the names for Governors whom President Ruto requested to drop their 2027 political ambitions. Among them is Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru who had already expressed interest in the Kirinyaga Senatorial seat.
“Anne Waiguru for example we were playing a very big role together that time (2022). She is not running today. She also wanted to contest for a seat. The President talked to her and requested her to help him” Governor Sang said.
Other Governors whom Ruto requested to shelve their ambitions include Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka, Lamu Governor Issa Timamy, Vihiga Governor Ottichilo and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi. However, Sang revealed that there are a section of second term Governors allied to Ruto who were allowed to contest for political seats in 2027 elections.
“Some of them had the intention to run, but there are some that Ruto allowed to run for political seats” Governor Sang.
According to the Nandi Governor, Ruto explained to them that a section of his allies who played an important role towards his 2022 elections are currently in Cabinet and may be busy executing their Cabinet roles. Hence, Ruto requested the outgoing Governors to shelve their 2027 political ambitions so that they can form a team that will fully focus on securing him a second term.
