A Nairobi family was brought to tears while saying goodbye to their devoted househelp, Awinja Bless, who had become more like a family member than an employee. Businesswoman Kami Mbaabu took to social media to share the touching farewell, noting the deep emotional connection they had formed.
Mbaabu explained that her young son, Kiongoss, was especially affected by the news of Awinja’s departure, sulking for an entire week. Awinja had started working with the family while pursuing a Diploma in Information Technology at Kitale National Polytechnic, effectively juggling her academics, household duties, and social commitments until her graduation.
Alongside her responsibilities at home, Awinja ventured into entrepreneurship, selling jerseys, clothes, shoes, and household goods online, while also running errands in Nairobi’s busy markets. Mbaabu praised her dedication and resilience, calling her an inspiring example of hard work and determination.
The farewell day was filled with strong emotions, yet Mbaabu personally accompanied Awinja to her new residence, helping her settle in and reminding her that she would always have a home with them. She described the occasion as bittersweet, feeling both sadness at letting go and pride in Awinja’s newfound independence.
Mbaabu encouraged her followers to support Awinja’s business and celebrated the young woman’s infectious personality and loving nature, emphasizing how much she would be missed. She highlighted that Awinja’s journey demonstrates how focus and perseverance can transform a househelp into a self-sufficient entrepreneur ready to make her mark.
