Cases of traffic police officers being arrested while taking bribes have been on the rise in many parts of the Republic of Kenya.
A female police officer based at Kilimani Police Station has been charged with bribery.
The cop was arrested after allegedly receiving a KSh 10,000 bribe via M-Pesa from a motorist.
The Nairobi officer was caught in the act by detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) during a sting operation.
According to investigators, the officer had negotiated a KSh 20,000 bribe to overlook a traffic violation.
But before the full amount was given, anti-corruption officers stepped in and arrested her while she was receiving KSh 10,000.
It is alleged that the officer used an M-Pesa till number to facilitate the transaction.
She was presented before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court, where she faced multiple counts of bribery solicitation.
The Kilimani-based policewoman denied the charges and was released after paying a KSh 20,000 fine.
The bribery case is set for mention on April 2 at Milimani Anti-Corruption Court.
The EACC is fighting Kenya traffic police corruption, warning it won’t be tolerated.
