A heartbroken Nairobi mother has received a unexpected ray of hope after receiving a mysterious letter from her daughter who disappeared 21 years ago.
In 2005, four-year-old Millicent vanished from her preschool playground in South B, Nairobi, during a brief ten-minute break. Her pink bag and red glove were the only items left behind. The painful incident crushed the family, leading to the sudden death of her father, Felix, just three months later due to severe stress.
For over two decades, her mother maintained Millicent’s bedroom untouched, lighting a single cupcake candle every year on her birthday. However, this past Thursday, on Millicent’s 25th birthday, an unmarked white envelope was dropped at her doorstep.
Inside was a photograph of a young woman who looks remarkably like her mother but carries her late father’s eyes. Tucked behind the photo was a heartbreaking handwritten note that read, “Dear Mom, you have NO CLUE what actually occurred that day. The person who snatched me was NEVER a stranger.”
Police in Nairobi have now opened inquiries to trace the origin of the letter and verify the young woman’s identity.
