A Nairobi man grabbed attention online after he erected a giant billboard along Kiambu Road to celebrate his wife’s birthday and spotlight her achievements. Nahashon Waweru said the eye-catching tribute wasn’t just a birthday surprise for his wife, Maria Nyambane, but an expression of admiration for her work as a writer, author and mother of their two children.
The couple, married for eight years and together for a decade, planned the gesture over four months, with the execution taking about a month. The billboard, placed next to Ciata Mall, featured Maria’s image and was meant to give her work wider recognition across Kenya and beyond. “Once a wife is empowered and supported, the whole family grows,” Waweru said, noting that exposing her to a wider audience was the best gift he could offer.
When Maria was led to the billboard blindfolded and revealed the surprise, she was overwhelmed with emotion, almost collapsing in joy. Her reaction has resonated with many online, highlighting how public affirmations of love and support can strengthen relationships.
Maria, a fast-rising YouTuber and author of books like Marriage is a Scam, has spoken about the challenges couples face today, drawing from her personal experiences and observations.
