Three individuals, including Embakasi East Member of County Assembly Patrick Karani, were arrested in Nairobi after detectives recovered a firearm during a raid at his office in the Roasters area.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, officers carried out an intelligence-led operation that led to the seizure of a Glock pistol and a magazine loaded with 12 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The suspects include Stephen Kimathi Karimoni and Stanley Njogu Irungu. They were taken into custody after detectives moved into the MCA’s office, where the weapon was allegedly found.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the firearm was being kept without a valid licence, raising concerns over illegal possession of a prohibited weapon.

Authorities have since secured the pistol and ammunition as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.

Police say the suspects are being held as detectives finalise case files ahead of court proceedings.

The DCI emphasised that illegal possession of firearms remains a serious threat to public safety and warned that anyone found violating gun laws will face prosecution without exception. The arrest has drawn public attention in Nairobi, given the involvement of an elected county leader and the location of the recovery within a political office.

Security agencies have in recent months intensified crackdowns on illegal firearms in urban areas, targeting both criminal networks and individuals suspected of unlawful possession.

Investigators are expected to continue probing how the weapon came into the possession of the suspects and whether it has any links to other criminal activity.

The trio remains in custody as authorities prepare to present the case in court.

The DCI has urged members of the public to continue sharing information on illegal firearms through its anonymous reporting channels as part of ongoing efforts to enhance security across the country.
