A Nairobi matatu conductor has become the talk of the town after returning KSh 10,000 that was accidentally sent to his M-Pesa account.
The money belonged to a passenger identified as Purity, who had earlier paid her fare via mobile money while travelling. She later discovered that she had mistakenly transferred an extra KSh 10,000 to the conductor’s number.
Worried about the loss, Purity immediately contacted him.
To her surprise, the conductor, identified as Francis, calmly assured her that he would check his transactions.
Moments later, she received a notification confirming that Francis had refunded the full amount, deducting only the correct fare.
Grateful for his honesty, Purity decided to show her appreciation in a special way.
Upon learning that Francis was about to celebrate his birthday, she surprised him with a decorated cake to mark the occasion.
Francis’s act of integrity has won him admiration both offline and online, with social media users praising him for setting an example in a society where stories of fraud and mistrust are common.
Purity expressed her hope that the conductor’s action would inspire more Kenyans to embrace honesty and fairness in their daily lives.
The story has since sparked conversations in Nairobi, with many agreeing that good deeds should not only be celebrated but also rewarded.
Francis’s gesture, though simple, has reminded Kenyans that integrity still thrives even in the most unexpected places.
