TikToker Freshi Mzungu recently shared his emotional story after travelling to Kenya on the recommendation of ChatGPT.
Looking for a country with nice weather, English-speaking residents, and affordable living costs similar to his home country, Freshi added Kenya to his travel list, despite never having considered Africa before.
The 28-year-old revealed that during his stay, he fell in love with a woman from Mombasa who was living in Nairobi.
At first, the relationship seemed promising, with Freshi paying for small expenses like Uber rides, salon appointments, and lashes.
However, the financial demands soon escalated. “After some time, I started paying for her rent, buying furniture, even paying rent for her mother,” he explained in an interview with Hot 96.
He also bought goats and other gifts for her family, including a washing machine for her grandmother.
Things took a drastic turn when Freshi realised his bank account was nearly empty and that he could not afford to return to his home country.
When he shared this with his girlfriend, she reportedly ended the relationship, telling him she did not want to be with a “broke mzungu” and blocked him from all communication channels. “She has no idea how I will return home now,” Freshi lamented.
The TikToker expressed disappointment, noting that he never anticipated such a sudden end to the relationship.
His experience highlights the challenges of navigating new cultures and relationships while travelling abroad, especially when financial pressures arise.
Despite the heartbreak, Freshi remains reflective, sharing his story with his audience to illustrate how quickly circumstances can change and the importance of being cautious when mixing love with finances in unfamiliar settings.
