Daystar University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Laban Ayiro has broken his silence following the death of his wife, Agnes Malesi Ayiro, nearly two weeks after her passing.
Agnes died on September 21, 2026, aged 71, while receiving treatment at Avenue Hospital in Nairobi. At the time, Prof. Ayiro was outside the country on official university duties. Daystar University later announced her death and asked the university community to pray for the family.
On Wednesday, September 30, Prof. Ayiro shared an emotional tribute as he remembered his wife and the life they had built together.
He described Agnes as his wife, friend and one of God’s greatest gifts to his life. The professor also reflected on their 50 years of marriage, friendship and shared faith.
“My heart is heavy with grief, yet full of gratitude. I cannot tell the story of my life without telling yours,” he wrote in the tribute.
Prof. Ayiro ended the message with a farewell to the woman he had spent five decades with.
“Rest in His peace, my wife, my friend, my Agnes. Until we meet again,” he wrote.
His message came as family members, friends and the Daystar University community continued to mourn Agnes.
A requiem Mass was held on Thursday, October 1, at Daystar University’s main campus in Athi River. Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i was among those who attended the service and joined other mourners in remembering Agnes.
According to funeral arrangements, Agnes will be laid to rest on Saturday, October 3, in Soy, Lumino Village, Likuyani.
Daystar University has continued to stand with Prof. Ayiro and his family during the difficult period.
As the family prepares for her burial, Prof. Ayiro’s tribute has offered a personal glimpse into the grief following the loss of his wife, while also remembering the long marriage and memories they shared.
