A Nairobi woman has opened up about years of abuse and tension with her parents, which culminated in a violent attack that left her deeply traumatized.

She described a horrifying incident where her father stripped her naked and physically assaulted her inside her husband’s home, leaving visible injuries on her back and thighs. The shame and fear from being attacked by her own parent convinced her that her family would never let her live peacefully, even in her marriage.

The harassment continued after that. The woman claims that her parents later broke into her home and removed virtually all her possessions, including household items meant for friends. Most distressing, they took her KCSE and diploma certificates, effectively preventing her from seeking employment during the pandemic when jobs were scarce.

Attempts to reclaim the documents reportedly met with demands of KSh 250,000 from her mother a sum she and her husband could not manage as students. She believes the tactic was intended to weaken her autonomy and sabotage her marital life.

Despite her husband trying to mend ties with her family, the conflict remains unresolved. Her testimony has sparked calls for individuals facing similar family abuse to pursue legal avenues and protect themselves, rather than enduring prolonged suffering in silence.
