Mp Peter Kaluma

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Member of Parliament Hon. Peter Opondo Kaluma has made it clear that his children will not participate in the planned nationwide protests set for Wednesday, June 25.

Kaluma, who has consistently voiced support for the formation of a Broad-Based Government, expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of street demonstrations, urging Kenyans to pursue institutional channels instead.

“My children will not join the Wednesday demonstration. I see no need for our people to be on the streets when they can petition relevant institutions for the necessary action,” Kaluma stated. His comments reflect growing divisions within the political class over the upcoming protests, which are being organized to honour and remember the victims of the deadly June 2024 demonstrations, many of whom were young people.

Despite Kaluma’s stance, preparations for the protests are in full swing across the country. Organisers, largely led by youth, have vowed to proceed with peaceful demonstrations, insisting that the streets remain a vital avenue for citizens to express their frustrations and push for change.
