Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse has responded sharply to Makueni Governor Mutula Kilonzo Jr., accusing him of launching attacks through proxies. The two leaders, both from the Ukambani region, have clashed publicly, with Mutuse making scathing remarks about the governor’s academic record and political behavior.

In a fiery statement, Mutuse directly addressed the governor, saying, “Please tell Governor Mutula and ilk that unlike them, I did not score a D in KCSE.” This personal jab set the tone for what appeared to be a deeply personal conflict between the two leaders. Mutuse also hinted that if Governor Kilonzo continues his current path, more unsavory details could emerge, claiming, “We will show that he scored D more than once, after repeating Form 4.”

Mutuse didn’t stop there. He went on to criticize Kilonzo’s educational journey, suggesting that despite his late father, Mutula Kilonzo Sr., being President Moi’s lawyer, Kilonzo Jr. was unable to study law in prestigious institutions abroad due to his poor grades. “He ended up in a private, over-a-bar college in India,” Mutuse added, mocking Kilonzo’s legal qualifications.

This heated exchange comes just days after Mwengi Mutuse was thrust into the national spotlight for initiating an impeachment motion against Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua. Governor Kilonzo was reportedly against this motion, further fueling tensions between the two leaders. Mutuse’s comments appear to be a response to what he perceives as underhanded attacks from the governor’s camp, stating that “Lazima watu waheshimiane” (People must respect each other).
