Kenyan comedian Mulamwah has firmly dismissed accusations that he was used by the government as a diversion to shift public attention from the dramatic return of former Interior CS Fred Matiang’i.

Matiang’i’s arrival on the night of June 19 at JKIA sparked instant political discourse, with many interpreting it as the opening move in his expected 2027 presidential bid. However, some online users speculated that Mulamwah’s social media drama—unfolding simultaneously—was orchestrated to dilute the public’s focus.

Responding through his Instagram stories, Mulamwah laughed off the allegations, calling them “wild” and “funny.” He said the only money he received was Ksh28,000 from fans sending him “salamu” via mobile payments, not millions in hush money. “10 million sahii ningekua Cayman Islands,” he joked.

The comedian’s online attention came amid his public feud with ex-girlfriend Ruth K, which had captured widespread online reactions. Ruth accused Mulamwah of disrespect, mental distress, and financial manipulation, including reversing M-Pesa transfers and using personal photos to shame her. She declared she was done and refocusing on raising their child.

Mulamwah, in his defense, accused Ruth of ingratitude and disrespect towards his family. He claimed her friends influenced her departure and that despite living under his roof, she was secretly preparing to move out. The bitter exchanges triggered backlash from fans, prompting both parties to issue apologies.

Mulamwah admitted his actions were driven by emotion and disappointment, and publicly asked for forgiveness from Ruth and his fans. Ruth also apologised, explaining she had been weathering a quiet storm and is now choosing to focus on her child and personal growth.

Meanwhile, Matiang’i, who was warmly received at JKIA, called for calm and hinted at a larger national dialogue. He promised to convene a public meeting soon to chart a path forward, urging Kenyans to organise and reflect on the country’s future together.
