Mount Kenya leaders today woke up to sad news after the government made a sudden move to reallocate the money meant for key water projects within the region. This comes after the Treasury Cabinet Secretary Hon Njuguna Ndung’u moved with speed allegedly deny Mount Kenya region Sh1.3 billion that was initially allocated to them for key water projects. According to reliable sources as reported by the Daily Nation, Mount Kenya leaders have threatened to ditch President William Samoei Ruto’s government after the Treasury reallocated their water project money to Ukambani.

Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Hon. Alice Wahome alleged that her ministry was not consulted and called on the Treasury not to reallocate money meant for Mount Kenya region to other regions.

Led by Member of Parliament Kimani Ichungwa, Ndindi Nyoro and Gathoni Wamuchomba, the leaders have written to the Treasury CS Hon. Njunguna Ndung’u to reverse his decision. The angry leaders vowed to use their power to reverse the government’s decision. The leaders accused the government of allegedly denying Mount Kenya its fair share of resources.

“We feel shortchanged. The promise was broken. President William Ruto pledged to complete all unfinished projects in our region and we donā€™t.

understand why this has changed. Our numbers in Mt Kenya qualify us to receive the earmarked allocations since we have a lot of pressure on sewer lines besides pressing water needs,ā€ the leaders said.
