A team of Members of Parliament representing Mt Kenya constituencies have emerged with fresh details of what the outlawed Mungiki sect has allegedly been doing behind the government’s back in the region.

According to the female Members of Parliament from the region who addressed the media on the issue yesterday, the Mungiki sect has allegedly been regrouping and has taken over key businesses in the region occasionally attacking those who stand in their way.

Allegedly, the outlawed group’s members have been demanding money from business people in the region so that they can allow them do business in the region. The Matatu and larger transport sector has allegedly been the key point of focus for the outlawed group.

The Members of Parliament farther claimed that the group has been recruiting more youths in Kenol area. Allegedly, the government has not taken notice of this.

The concerned members of Parliament are now threatening to call for widespread demonstrations in the area to push the interior cabinet secretary for Internal Coordination Kithure Kindiki to take swift actions.

The former leader of the outlawed sect Maina Njenga in a recent interview denied claims of regrouping the members stating that he is a changed man and leads a rather different youth welfare group. He is currently facing charges in Nakuru where he has been accused of maintaining contact with members of an outlawed sect.
