Busia residents woke up to a shocking discovery on Monday morning after the body of a well-known Mount Kenya activist and fierce government critic was found dumped in a tree plantation. The activist had been missing for several days before his lifeless body was found in the remote area.
According to local residents, a herder stumbled upon the body early in the morning and immediately alerted the authorities. Police officers arrived at the scene and confirmed that the deceased had injuries, suggesting possible torture before his death.
The activist, who had gained popularity for openly criticizing government policies, had been reported missing by his family. His disappearance had raised concerns, with fellow activists and human rights groups calling for his immediate search.
Speaking to the press, a local police officer said investigations had begun to determine the cause of death and those responsible. “We are treating this as a serious crime. We urge anyone with information to come forward and assist in the investigations,” the officer stated.
The activist’s death has sparked public outcry, with leaders and human rights defenders demanding justice. Many believe his murder was politically motivated, given his strong stance against corruption and poor governance.
The body was moved to the mortuary for a post-mortem examination as police intensified their investigations. Meanwhile, his family and supporters are calling for a speedy probe to bring those responsible to justice.
This tragic incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of outspoken activists in the country.
