MPs who are currently in their holiday will have to cut short their recess for crisis meeting at the National Assembly as Senior Counsel Otiende Amollo writes to speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetangula.

Otiende in a letter says that Article 108, 119 & 126 of the Constitution of Kenya, as read together with Standing Order no. 29 (1) of the National Assembly, allows the House to convene and have a Special Sitting as may be necessary, and in any event, upon the request of the Leader of Majority and the Leader of Minority.

He says that as duly Elected Representatives of the people whom the NGCDF benefit, they are extremely concerned that despite it being the third quarter of the Financial Year 2023/2024, they have only received KES 30 million per Constituency, being less than a fifth of what is due to each Constituency, the amount so far disbursed is, in any event he says is restricted to bursaries for students and for administrative purposes.

He has therefore earnestly and solemnly, requested that the offices of Majority leader and Minority convey and cause immediate summoning of the National Assembly for an urgent Special Sitting on Tuesday, the 6th day of February, 2024.

“In any event, we earnestly and solemnly request you to convey our sentiments, that the first Order of Business of the first sitting of the National Assembly, whenever heid, should be to discuss the foregoing subject.”statement read.
