Kiambu County Assembly Majority Leader Godfrey Mucheke has sparked a political storm in Githunguri after leading residents in a traditional Kikuyu funeral song targeting their Member of Parliament, Gathoni Wamuchomba.
The incident unfolded during Governor Kimani Wamatangi’s visit to Kigumo Shopping Centre in Komothai Ward, where he inspected the newly completed Kigumo Modern Open-Air Market.
In a dramatic moment, Mucheke led residents in singing a funeral song whose message appeared to suggest that Wamuchomba’s political career was coming to an end ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The crowd joined in, turning the governor’s development tour into a pointed political confrontation involving the sitting MP.
Mucheke later accused Wamuchomba of repeatedly insulting Wamatangi, openly defending the governor against what he described as attacks from the legislator.
The incident exposed the growing differences between Wamuchomba and political leaders allied to Wamatangi, with the county assembly majority leader using the public gathering to send a direct message to the MP.
Away from the political confrontation, Wamatangi announced that the Kigumo Modern Open-Air Market was complete and ready for traders. He also launched cabro works on surrounding streets to improve access and support commercial activities.
However, Mucheke’s decision to lead the funeral song became the biggest talking point of the visit, placing Wamuchomba under fresh political pressure as the race towards the 2027 elections gathers momentum.
