Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege has moved many Kenyans with her compassionate gesture after she stepped in to clear a hospital bill of KSh 270,000 to help release the body of a man who had been lying in the mortuary for a month.

The emotional story came to light after popular gospel artist and philanthropist Karangu Muraya took to Facebook, appealing for help to offset the outstanding bill at the Kenyatta University Teaching, Research and Referral Hospital. The deceased, identified simply as Sam from Gatanga in Murang’a County, passed away a month ago, but his family was unable to settle the hospital costs, leaving his body detained at the facility.

According to Karangu, the original bill stood at KSh 700,000. Thankfully, SHA came forward and contributed KSh 300,000, while close friends and well-wishers managed to raise another KSh 100,000. Still, a balance of KSh 270,000 remained, a burden too heavy for the grieving family to shoulder.

Touched by the plea, Sabina Chege quietly offered to settle the remaining amount, allowing Sam’s body to finally be released and giving his family the chance to lay him to rest with dignity.

The support didn’t end there as Emmaus Funeral Directors generously offered to provide a coffin, and Karangu Muraya personally committed to covering the cost of the hearse to transport Sam to his final resting place.
