Member of Parliament Makali Mulu of Kitui Central has praised Kenya’s Gen Z for their peaceful demonstration during the Saba Saba Memorial Day at Uhuru Park in Nairobi on Sunday.

The youth gathered to honor those who lost their lives during recent anti-government protests, displaying crosses adorned with names and the Kenyan flag.

MP Mulu highlighted the orderly behavior of the youth, noting they came prepared with mobile phones, water bottles, and masks, emphasizing their peaceful intentions. He remarked, “There was no violence; they conducted themselves peacefully without causing harm or damage.”

Speaking further, Mulu refuted claims linking past protests’ violence to Gen Z, suggesting outside influences instead. “Last week, troublemakers posed as Gen Z but caused disruptions,” he stated, urging a fair assessment of the youth’s genuine intentions.

Mulu called for constructive dialogue to address youth concerns, advocating for a modern approach to engagement beyond traditional methods. “We need to understand and engage with these young people differently to move forward as a nation,” he emphasized.

The recent protests led President William Ruto to withdraw the controversial Finance Bill 2024 under pressure, announcing austerity measures in response to youth demands for accountability.
