Ferdinand Wanyonyi, the Member of Parliament for Kwanza Constituency, has returned to Kenya after spending five months in India undergoing specialized medical treatment. His arrival on Monday, May 4, 2026, marked the end of a prolonged absence that had generated concern among constituents, colleagues, and the wider public.
Upon his return, the legislator was received by family members, close associates, and political allies, reflecting the relief and support surrounding his recovery. The Democratic Action Party Kenya (DAP-K), under which he was elected, confirmed his return and expressed appreciation for the progress he has made. The party indicated that Wanyonyi is now in stable condition following months of intensive care abroad.
Wanyonyi’s medical journey began in late 2025 when he was first admitted to The Nairobi Hospital for initial treatment. After approximately one month of observation, medical specialists recommended that he seek advanced care outside the country due to the complexity of his condition. He was subsequently transferred to Kerala, a region recognized for its specialized healthcare services and rehabilitation programs.
While in India, Wanyonyi underwent continuous treatment under the supervision of a team of medical experts, focusing on stabilizing his condition and supporting his recovery. During this period, Moses Wetangula visited him and provided updates to the public, reassuring Kenyans that the MP was responding positively to treatment and receiving proper care.
At one point, unverified reports circulated on social media suggesting that the legislator had passed away. These claims were firmly dismissed by Wetangula, who confirmed that he had remained in direct contact with Wanyonyi and his family, urging the public to disregard false information.
Following his arrival, a video shared publicly showed the MP walking with assistance as he departed the airport. This indicated notable improvement, although he continues to recover and undergo rehabilitation.
Wanyonyi has represented Kwanza Constituency in Trans Nzoia County since 2013 and is currently serving his third term.
