Veteran Kenyan journalist and television personality Jeff Koinange has sparked widespread online reactions after trying boiled cow head, a popular local delicacy, for the first time in his life. The moment, which was captured on video, showed a lighter and more relatable side of the celebrated broadcaster as he stepped out of his comfort zone and embraced a common street food enjoyed by many Kenyans.

 

Jeff’s food adventure was made possible by his Hot 96 FM colleague and close friend Patrick Igunza, who invited him to a well known soup joint. Due to his privileged and posh upbringing, Jeff admitted that he had never tasted boiled cow head before, despite being a proud Kenyan who has lived and worked both locally and internationally for decades.

In the video that quickly went viral, Jeff is seen seated at the soup joint sampling different parts of the cow head as Igunza guides him through the experience. The dish, which is prepared by thoroughly cleaning the cow head before boiling it for several hours, is known for its rich soup and tender meat. It is a delicacy commonly found in roadside eateries and is especially popular in the mornings.

 

Jeff appeared pleasantly surprised by the taste and did not hide his excitement. At one point, he jokingly asked where the brain was, drawing laughter from those around him. He later walked over to the cooking area to inspect the boiling pots, where vendors explained that they start cooking the cow heads very early in the morning and can sell up to ten in a single day. Each cow head reportedly goes for about KSh 2,500, depending on demand.

Reacting to the heat and flavor of the food, Jeff used a popular Kiswahili phrase, saying the meal was hot like an iron. His reaction suggested that he not only enjoyed the meal but was genuinely impressed by the experience.

The video amused many Kenyans online, with fans praising Patrick Igunza for introducing Jeff to a different side of everyday Kenyan life. Others applauded Jeff for his humility, noting that despite his high status and successful career, he was open to learning and experiencing things many people consider ordinary.
