Veteran Kenyan actress Maria, popularly known for her role in the hit TV show Mother-In-Law, has opened up about the end of her long-term marriage, revealing that financial changes and differences in expectations played a major role in the breakup.
Speaking in a recent interview, Maria reflected on how her relationship started on a strong footing, with the couple building successful business ventures together before things eventually fell apart.

According to her, the couple started small, doing market errands and gradually expanding into supply businesses.
Over time, they ventured into the transport sector, acquiring assets including vehicles and a fleet of matatus. She recalled owning several vehicles by the time their marriage began to strain.
“We even bought our first car, a Nissan Caravan, and by the time we separated, we had around six matatus,” she said, describing how their financial situation had improved significantly during the marriage.
Maria noted that money eventually became a source of tension, changing how her then-husband viewed their relationship. She suggested that increased wealth altered perceptions and created distance between them.
“Money was the reason things changed the way they did. When someone who is not used to handling a lot of money suddenly gets it, their eyes open and they start seeing things differently,” she said.
She further hinted that her ex-husband’s desire to marry another wife also contributed to the breakdown of their marriage. According to her, he began feeling that he needed a different partner as circumstances changed.
Despite the separation, Maria said she has remained focused on raising her children and rebuilding her life. She revealed that the marriage produced two children and that she later took a long break before having another child years after the initial separation.
