A disturbing incident in Homa Bay County has drawn public anger after a mother was filmed giving first aid to her daughter outside a hospital.
The young girl, dressed in her school uniform, had collapsed after being brought in for medical attention. Her mother, desperate to save her, placed her on a leso and sack under a shade and tried to revive her with the help of concerned boda boda riders and residents.
The girl had been picked up from school after teachers informed her mother that she was unwell. Hoping to get treatment, the mother rushed her to the nearest health facility. On arrival, however, there were no medical staff available to attend to her. Reports suggest that hospital staff had gone for lunch, leaving patients unattended.
As they attempted to transfer the girl to another facility, she fainted again, forcing her mother and locals to try emergency measures on the ground. Videos of the incident quickly spread online, sparking outrage over the state of healthcare in the county.
Many Kenyans expressed concern that such negligence was not only unacceptable but also dangerous, as it put lives at risk. They urged county leaders to act swiftly, stressing that patient care must never be abandoned for personal comfort.
