A Mercedes-Benz limousine previously used by Kenya’s second President, Daniel arap Moi, has captured the attention of visitors attending the Mashujaa Day thematic week at Eldoret Polytechnic.

The historic vehicle is among the main attractions at the Presidential Library and Archives tent, where students, teachers and members of the public have been gathering to view the car associated with Moi’s presidency.

The limousine was used by the former Head of State during the 1990s, a period marked by significant political developments in Kenya. It has since been preserved at the Presidential Museum and loaned for display during the ongoing exhibition.

Visitors have been impressed by the vehicle’s condition, with much of its original appearance reportedly remaining intact. The interior leather seats and seating arrangement have also attracted attention from people eager to see a piece of the country’s political history up close.

For many young visitors, the display has provided an opportunity to connect classroom lessons with tangible historical objects. Students have been able to learn more about Kenya’s past through a vehicle that once served the country’s presidency.

Older visitors have also been drawn to the limousine, with some reflecting on memories of Moi’s time in office and the official motorcades that accompanied his travels across the country.

Beyond the vehicle, the Presidential Library and Archives tent features historical photographs, documents and other records documenting Kenya’s leadership since independence.

Organisers say the exhibition offers members of the public an opportunity to learn about the country’s heritage while appreciating important historical collections.

The display forms part of activities leading up to Mashujaa Day, which Kenya celebrates every October 20 to honour individuals who contributed to the nation’s freedom, development and progress.

By bringing Moi’s former limousine to Eldoret, organisers have added a distinctive historical attraction to this year’s commemorations, drawing attention to the importance of preserving the country’s heritage for future generations.
