Millicent Omanga attracted attention on Thursday, August 27, after stepping out in a full school uniform during a visit to St Daniel Comboni Primary School in Korogocho, Ruaraka Constituency.
The former nominated senator visited the school through her Omanga Care outreach programme, where she distributed free sanitary towels to schoolgirls as part of efforts to promote menstrual hygiene.
The initiative seeks to assist pupils who may struggle to afford sanitary products, helping them manage their periods with greater dignity while remaining in school and participating fully in lessons.
Speaking during the outreach, Omanga stressed that menstruation should never become a reason for a girl to miss classes. She said supporting menstrual hygiene was not only about providing products but also about protecting the dignity and wellbeing of young learners.
Her decision to wear a school uniform during the visit quickly became one of the highlights of the event. The unusual outfit created a relaxed atmosphere as she interacted with pupils, teachers and other members of the school community.
Omanga also used the occasion to explain her approach to community outreach, saying she preferred practical engagement over making promises that may never be fulfilled.
“I am not here to make empty promises—I am here to listen, show up and serve,” she said.
She added that Nairobi residents need leaders who can turn compassion into tangible support for communities, especially families facing financial difficulties.
Menstrual hygiene remains a significant concern for many schoolgirls, particularly where families struggle to meet the cost of sanitary products. Lack of access can affect attendance, concentration and participation in school activities.
Through Omanga Care, Omanga said she hopes to support more girls and help remove barriers that could interfere with their education.
Her school visit has since generated interest online, with many Kenyans focusing on both her distinctive appearance and the purpose behind the outreach.
