Mbugua Kiani

The former Governor of Nairobi, Mike Sonko, known for helping vulnerable individuals in society through his NGO, the Sonko Rescue Team, stepped in on 31st March to rescue former journalist Kimani Mbugua from the streets of Makongeni in Thika.

Sonko, who had earlier facilitated Kimani’s rehabilitation, offered him a second chance after it emerged that his condition had relapsed.

Kimani was later taken to the Mombasa Women Rehabilitation Center, where he has been undergoing counseling sessions.

While giving an update on Kimani’s progress, Mike Sonko disclosed that Kimani will spend more time at the rehabilitation center because he had stopped taking his medication during the relapse period, and therefore, he has to restart the recovery process.

At the center, Kimani Mbugua was received by former Kenyan boxer Conjestina Achieng, who was also rescued by Mike Sonko. She has been receiving counseling at the same center and has fully recovered.
