Abel Mutua and Philip Karanja are known Kenyan celebrities in the field of film making and acting. The two who were actors in Tahidi High were learners at the Kenya Institute of Mass Communication and felt like kings when they attended drama festival. Abel and Phil had already grown into celebrities during their time in campus and felt like they were bigger and better than their fellow students.
The two recently started film making which eventually earned them big. Abel and phil are now popular script writers, storytellers and film director. The two now own a production firm known as Philit Production. Abel Mutua once narrated on his popular storytelling YouTube channel, that he will be releasing a film on Phil It Productions based on true story with a mission to improve the standards and culture in regards to film making and marketing in the country.
Philit Productions launched its first movie called Click Click Bang back in July 15 2022 at the Nairobi Cinema. According to them, this film was successful for it was through its sale that Phil was ranked the best film director in Kenya. This movie was a boost to them as it raked in millions of money. Karanja said that they were able to rake in ksh 2.5 million from the sales of tickets a night.
Phil-it production produced another movie called “A Grand Little Lie” which earned them big and it was nominated as the Best Movie in East Africa at the Africa Magic Viewers choice. This movie was a top money maker that saw Karanja and Abel rake in over ksh 4 million within a few days after its launch. The two together with other celebrities from Kenya are yet to release another film which entails the social, economic, political and cultural activities in the country.
