Njeri Mwang

Njeri Mwangi is more than just the wife of celebrated activist Boniface Mwangi — she is a fearless journalist, mother of three, and a bold voice in Africa’s human rights space.

Known for her powerful work with BBC Africa Eye, Njeri has carved her own niche by shining a spotlight on the darkest corners of society.

Njeri’s activism journey runs parallel to that of her husband, from the streets of Nairobi to international protests.

Most recently, she supported Boniface during his controversial visit to Tanzania, where he was detained while attending the court session of opposition leader Tundu Lissu. That moment exposed the risks she’s willing to take for justice.

Her professional roots trace back to Daystar University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Communication and Public Relations. But her education didn’t end in the classroom — her real learning came through experience in journalism, activism, and community work.

In 2010, she co-founded PAWA 254 with Boniface. The organization blends art and activism to amplify youth voices and push for change. From photography to spoken word, it brings together creatives to address civic and social issues across Kenya.

As a freelance journalist, Njeri has worked with BBC Media to produce hard-hitting documentaries. “Forced to Beg” exposed the trafficking of Tanzanian children into Kenya. “The Baby Stealers” revealed a baby trafficking network involving maternity wards. Both earned critical acclaim and triggered government action.

Through her work, Njeri Mwangi proves that women are not just supporters of movements — they can be at the forefront, leading with courage and impact.
