Zimbabwean sungura musician Sugar Sugar, whose real name is Taruvinga Manjokota, says he was told to hand back the Toyota Fortuner that the late businessman Wicknell Chivayo gifted him. The claim has raised fresh questions about who actually owns the car.

The singer, known for the hit Todya Mudododo, says he was instructed to return the vehicle by 10 am on October 21, 2026, over concerns about payment and ownership. He learned of it after missing calls while performing at a show in Chinhoyi, when his manager passed on the message.

Speaking to ZBC, he said he doesn’t have the vehicle’s registration book and doesn’t know where it is. Chivayo died before the ownership was transferred, so for now he is driving a car that isn’t legally in his name.

The dealer, Madzibaba Tendai Chipaga of Enterprise Car Sales, tells a different story. He denies asking for the car back and says the matter is still unresolved until the executor of Chivayo’s estate finishes the necessary processes.

He suspects someone may have used the confusion around the businessman’s affairs to scare the musician. Who contacted Sugar Sugar remains unclear.

Chipaga also revealed that around 15 vehicles supplied to Chivayo have not yet been paid for, and they are waiting on the estate to be settled.

The gift goes back to September 2026, when Chivayo noticed his children dancing to Todya Mudododo. He offered the musician a new Fortuner and about Ksh 1.3 million in cash, and later raised the cash to roughly Ksh 5.2 million. Around the same time, he handed 15 Fortuners to members of his church from Mrehwa, Negomo and Domboshava.

Chivayo was well known for giving away expensive cars and money to musicians, public figures and religious groups. Since his death, beneficiaries and dealers have been left waiting for clarity.
