Media personality Joyce Gituro has sparked nostalgia among Kenyans after sharing her excitement over unexpectedly meeting former Cabinet Secretary and veteran broadcaster Raphael Tuju on Thursday afternoon.
In a social media post accompanied by photos of the two together, Gituro reflected on Tuju’s remarkable influence during his years in the media industry before transitioning into politics. She described him as one of the most powerful and recognizable television personalities of his era, noting that his presence on screen commanded attention from viewers across the country.
According to Gituro, many younger Kenyans may not fully understand the impact Tuju had during the golden age of television news broadcasting. She recalled how countless households would eagerly wait for the 9:00 pm news bulletin largely to watch him deliver the news in his unique and captivating style.
Gituro also praised Ace Communications, a company associated with Tuju, for playing a significant role in shaping Kenya’s media and communications industry. She noted that the company opened doors for many professionals who later built successful careers in broadcasting and corporate communications.
Her post quickly attracted reactions from Kenyans online, many of whom fondly remembered Tuju as one of the country’s most iconic news anchors. Several users shared memories of his commanding voice, professionalism, and charisma that made him a household name during his peak years on television.
The celebrated media personality expressed joy at reconnecting with someone she described as a longtime comrade and mentor in the industry.
The reunion comes just hours after Tuju suffered a legal setback when the High Court declined to interfere with the completed auction of the multi-billion-shilling Dari Business Park in Karen. In a ruling delivered on Thursday, Justice Moses Ado dismissed Tuju’s application seeking to reverse the auction, stating that the court could not overturn a lawful transfer of property already sold and transferred to a third-party buyer nearly two years ago.
