Oga Obinna

Kenyan comedian and content creator Oga Obinna has reacted after boxer and TikToker Alfayo Siwa issued an apology following his controversial withdrawal from a highly anticipated boxing match.

The bout, which had attracted significant attention online, was part of a boxing event organised by Obinna. However, Alfayo’s sudden exit triggered a public fallout that quickly escalated on social media.

Alfayo had initially pulled out of the match, citing concerns over how the agreement was handled. He claimed there was a lack of proper communication between his team and the organisers, adding that the structure of the deal did not adequately reflect the risks fighters take when stepping into the ring.

He also raised concerns about compensation, suggesting that fighters were being undervalued compared to other entertainers involved in the event. His remarks drew mixed reactions, with some fans supporting his stance while others criticised his timing and decision to withdraw.

Following the backlash, Alfayo later issued an apology, appearing to soften his earlier position and acknowledge the impact of his actions.

Reacting to the apology, Obinna maintained that the situation had already gone too far to be reversed. Using the phrase “maziwa ishamwagika,” he indicated that the damage caused by Alfayo’s withdrawal had already affected the event.

Obinna noted that pulling out at a critical stage disrupted planning and forced organisers to make adjustments. He had earlier criticised Alfayo’s decision, questioning his approach and suggesting that he may have been misadvised.

The event itself had been marketed as a platform to showcase emerging boxing talent while also entertaining fans through influencer participation. With several matchups lined up, it had generated excitement among audiences eager to see a blend of sports and entertainment.

Alfayo’s exit, however, became one of the biggest talking points, highlighting underlying challenges in organising influencer driven sporting events, particularly around contracts, expectations, and communication.

Online reactions to the fallout remained divided. While some fans urged Obinna to accept the apology and give Alfayo another chance, others believed the boxer had missed a valuable opportunity and should face the consequences of his decision.

The incident underscores the importance of clear agreements and professionalism in Kenya’s growing boxing and entertainment scene. It also reflects how quickly disagreements can escalate in the public eye, especially when amplified by social media.

As it stands, Obinna’s response suggests that reconciliation may not happen immediately, leaving the two parties to move forward separately after the widely discussed fallout.
