The Ministry of Education has directed all students and teachers to report to school on Friday, despite the newly introduced Mazingira Day holiday. According to a circular issued on Wednesday, the ministry clarified that learning will continue as usual, emphasizing that the academic calendar is already tight due to upcoming national examinations.
Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu stated that schools cannot afford to lose instructional time at this crucial stage, especially as candidates prepare for their national exams set to begin later this month. He added that environmental conservation activities marking Mazingira Day can still be conducted within school premises to honor the spirit of the holiday.

The directive has sparked mixed reactions from parents and teachers, some welcoming the move for maintaining discipline and focus, while others feel it denies learners a chance to rest and participate in national celebrations.
