Kenyan singer Avril Nyambura has finally laid her demised grandfather, who was a renowned legendary boxer Philip Waruinge to rest.

Taking to her Instagram account on Friday night, she infact gave netizens a sneak peak of how the burial went down via several photos.

In the post Avril also disclosed that he was buried on that Friday, and further mourned him in a caption saying:

“We laid to rest a great man today. A quiet man. A legend. RIP Guka. #PhilipWaruinge May they never forget your name (love emoji”).

From the eulogy shared by Avril it is clear that the late Philip Waruinge passed away due to a short illness, and it happened on the night of October 19-20th.

He was married to Mary Waruinge, and the couple had 4 children. At his death, he left behind some 12 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Philip Waruinge also had an illustrious career as a boxer. He is the only Kenyan to win an African boxing championship gold in three editions 1964, 1966 and 1968.

He is also the only Kenyan boxer to win three Commonwealth games medals.

He won a bronze at the 1962 Perth Games, won gold at the 1966 Kingston games and also another gold in 1970 at the Edinburg games.

Philip Waruinge also won a gold medal in 1965, at the Congo Brazaville All Africa Games.

Avril announces she has lost her grandfather
The burial however comes just slightly over a week after Avril announced to her fans that she had unfortunately her beloved grandfather.

This happened on the 19th of October, and at the time the ‘Nikimuona’ hit maker took to her Instagram account, and shared a video of her grandfather partaking in a boxing match.

She further accompanied it with a caption saying:

“Reat in peace Guka. The family of Philip Waruinge is sad to announce that Kenyan legendary boxer and Olympian Philip Waruinge passed away last night in his sleep. Details sbout his funeral will be shared”.
