Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, a man often associated with stern speeches and a serious face, shocked many on Friday when he threw caution to the wind and hit the dance floor in Yatta.
The occasion was the University Dons Forum at Kithimani, but it quickly turned into a mini concert when the popular ‘Anguka nayo’ hit filled the air.
Without warning, Matiang’i started moving his shoulders in rhythm, even throwing in a few arm moves that suspiciously resembled TikTok choreography.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka was right by his side, struggling between laughing at Matiang’i’s attempts and keeping up with the beat himself. The two leaders exchanged smiles, and for a moment, politics took a back seat to pure entertainment.
The crowd, clearly delighted, pulled out their phones to capture what could easily pass as Kenya’s newest comedy skit. Some laughed, some cheered, while others wore puzzled looks probably wondering if the heat in Yatta had melted the politicians’ usual seriousness.
Other leaders, including Mukhisa Kituyi and Justin Muturi, also joined the mood, though none managed to outshine Matiang’i’s surprisingly spirited effort.
The ‘Anguka nayo’ track, by rap duo Wadagliz, has officially made its way from Nairobi dance floors to Kenya’s political stage.
