As Kenya moves closer to the 2027 General Election, new political groups are starting to form in surprising ways and one name keeps coming up in all the political talks.
Whether planned or not, many people believe Kalonzo is likely to become Kenya’s next Deputy President because of several reasons. One reason is the recent resignation of Fred Matiang’i from his job at the World Bank. Many now see Matiang’i as a possible strong opponent to President William Ruto in the 2027 election.
Young voters, the Gen Z, are also becoming important in shaping politics and many of them support a team made up of Matiang’i for president and Kalonzo as his deputy.
This team is interesting because Matiang’i is known for getting things done, and Kalonzo has a lot of experience in politics. Kalonzo also has many supporters in Ukambani and other areas. Their public meetings are starting to attract attention, and their popularity is growing. If this continues, they could become serious challengers in 2027.
There is also talk of Kalonzo joining either Ruto or Raila Odinga in a political partnership. For Ruto, asking Kalonzo to be his running mate could make sense. Kalonzo could then become President after one term. This might be more attractive than waiting ten years under a Matiang’i presidency.
No matter which side he joins, Kalonzo is now seen as the most likely choice for Deputy President. This shows how important he is in Kenya’s politics and how future governments may need strong partnerships to work.
