Eric Muuga, the youngest person ever nominated for the Cabinet Secretary (CS) role in the Ministry of Water, recently revealed that his net worth is Sh31 million. This has led to a lot of public reaction, especially on social media.
Muuga, in his statement today, stressed the need for honesty and transparency. He said, “I believe it’s important for people to know their leaders’ financial status. It shows that we are honest and can be trusted.”
The announcement was quickly shared on Twitter by Moe from Money Academy KE. It soon got over 5,000 views, 48 reposts, and many comments with different opinions.
One person, Juveh, reacted positively, saying, “He’s honest.” Others also praised Muuga’s transparency. For example, Robinson M said, “At least water is honest,” linking Muuga’s honesty to his role in the Ministry of Water.
However, not everyone was convinced. Rotarian Tinkah called it a “classic example of posturing,” meaning he thought Muuga might be pretending to be more honest than he really is. Another user, NBS, joked, “Ye ndo maskini kwa hiyo team,” suggesting that Muuga’s net worth is low compared to other officials.
Some people had doubts. Abdi Ahmed asked, “Huyu hana shares???”, questioning if Muuga had declared all his assets. The Game is Rigged expressed surprise, saying, “Bana I thought atasema anaworth like 500k, mailod 31M? kwn watu munatoa pesa wapi?”
The conversation continued with Runinga ya streets predicting, “He will leave there being a billionaire,” implying that Muuga might become very wealthy while in office. Another user, M, worried, “After three years ikue 311 million in a falling economy,” suggesting concerns about economic problems and possible financial growth for officials.
