Deputy DCP party leader Cleophas Malala has dismissed a viral graphic that claimed he attacked Citizen TV journalist Yvonne Okwara. The fake message alleged Malala vowed never to appear on the station again, accusing Okwara of reading State House scripts.

Malala posted on his official X account on Wednesday, August 27, branding the statement false. He urged Kenyans to ignore the graphic and stressed that his focus remains on truth and objectivity. The post carried his picture stamped with a bold “FAKE” watermark to emphasize the denial.

His clarification came a day after Okwara’s high-profile interview with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on The Explainer. The prime-time show drew wide attention as Okwara pressed Gachagua on divisive political issues.

She challenged him on his remarks about a “shareholding government,” which critics view as tribal. Gachagua argued that some of those questions should be directed at President William Ruto. Okwara firmly cut in, stating that she was interviewing him and not the President.

The interview escalated when Okwara pressed Gachagua to prove his allegation that Ruto had met Al-Shabaab leaders. “He who alleges must prove,” she said, demanding specifics. Gachagua avoided clear answers, exposing gaps in his claim.

The fiery exchange has stirred national debate. Supporters hailed Okwara for her boldness, while others argued she was too combative. Gachagua’s backers praised his calm handling of the pressure, but critics said he dodged accountability.

Clips of the session circulated widely on social platforms, with some commentators describing the program as explosive. Many highlighted Okwara’s sharp questioning as an example of fearless journalism.

The interview has reinforced Okwara’s reputation as one of the country’s most uncompromising broadcasters. Her style of holding leaders to account remains both admired and debated, cementing her place at the center of Kenya’s media landscape.
