Lydia Wanjiru has spoken out on abuse and said it can change women into violent people, linking her remarks to the hit Netflix series The Polygamist.
She explained that toxic relationships can push women into actions they never intended. Her comments come as the series continues to attract attention since its release.
She warned that abuse can have serious consequences for women who stay in harmful relationships. Lydia said that some women end up suffering life-changing outcomes because of the people they are involved with.
“And this is what abuse does to you as a woman who is associated with such a man. You end up becoming a violent person. Joyce is not a violent person from the word go, and we can tell that. Hata unaweza enda jela because of such a man, and he will reject you when you are alive, and you are still fighting for him? Choose yourself, imagine,” Lydia Wanjiru said on Wednesday, June 17, 2026.
Impact of toxic relationships
She further explained that abuse can completely change a person’s behaviour over time. According to her, some women end up becoming someone they do not recognise because of toxic relationships.
“He ends up turning you into someone you are not! Joyce is lucky to have escaped, but how many women either lose their lives through death or life in prison!!!” Lydia Wanjiru said.
Lydia’s comments are based on themes seen in The Polygamist, where Joyce is one of the main female characters. The storyline explores emotional struggle and the consequences of toxic relationships in a dramatic setting.
She pointed out that the series reflects real-life situations many women face. According to her, some women suffer deeply while trying to stay in harmful relationships that change their lives completely.
“And this is what abuse does to you as a woman who is associated with such a man,” Lydia Wanjiru said.
In related reactions, Kenyan actress and content creator Trisha Khalid has also spoken about the series. She made it clear that she is not in a rush to watch The Polygamist despite its growing popularity.
Trisha said she prefers taking her time when it comes to watching shows instead of following trending content immediately. She explained that social media pressure does not influence her viewing habits.
