In a rare moment of vulnerability, celebrated Kenyan journalist Jeff Koinange has lifted the lid on a deeply personal chapter from his past — a secret marriage that lasted seven years during his time in New York City.

Speaking candidly in a recent interview, Koinange revealed that he was once married to a flight attendant while pursuing his journalism career abroad.

The union, which had remained out of the public eye for decades, took place during his early years in the United States as he worked to establish himself in international media.

“I was married for seven years to a flight attendant while living in New York,” he shared. “Over time, we fell out of love and eventually broke up.”

Though he did not name his former spouse, Koinange acknowledged that the relationship was shaped by the demands of their careers — his in the fast-paced world of news reporting and hers in the skies.

With conflicting schedules, long absences, and the pressure of navigating life in a foreign country, the couple gradually drifted apart.

“It was love, yes. But love isn’t always enough,” Koinange admitted with calm introspection. “We had a good run, but the distance — physical and emotional — eventually caught up with us.”

The disclosure offers a new glimpse into the life of the 58-year-old news anchor, who is best known for his commanding on-screen presence and decades-long career covering major stories across Africa and beyond.

While Jeff has built a reputation as a no-nonsense broadcaster with a signature baritone voice, few have had access to the man behind the microphone.

This revelation comes as Koinange marks over 30 years in journalism, having worked with CNN, Reuters, and currently Citizen TV.

His New York chapter, it turns out, wasn’t just about chasing stories — it also involved navigating the highs and lows of love in a city that never sleeps.

For many fans who have admired Koinange’s polished demeanor and guarded personal life, this candid moment feels refreshing and humanizing.

It reminds us that even media giants carry private histories of heartbreak — stories written far from the spotlight, and sometimes, above the clouds.

As for whether he’s open to love again, Jeff simply smiled and said, “Life is a journey. You never know what the next chapter holds.”
